I fell in love with animating clay during this project. There is something so intuitive about it, much like motherhood -there is no manual to follow, you just go with the flow of each day. I let the clay guide me, embracing the way it naturally unfolded. While making this my daughter was 3, and I wanted to explore the interconnectedness and transformation between mother and child, and also how as a parent your inner child resurfaces. The malleability of clay was the perfect medium to express my ideas. I loved working with the unique contours of the building to accentuate both the intimate and expansive qualities of motherhood.
